Current research

Dr. Licy L. Yanes Cardozo earned her Medical Degree and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the National University of Asuncion (Paraguay). Later, as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Physiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), she explored the mechanisms through which androgens regulate blood pressure under the mentorship of Dr. Jane Reckelhoff. She then joined the Department of Medicine at UMMC, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology fellowship. As a physician-scientist, she is actively engaged in basic and clinical research. Her basic and clinical research focuses on whether and how excess androgens mediate cardiometabolic complications in women. She is the Research Director of the Center for Gender and Sexual Minority Health, the Research Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and the Director of the Women’s Health Research Center at UMMC. She has published over 70 manuscripts and book chapters. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.
